Navigation and Interface

• Better-looking graphics and interface make the program look and feel new.

New Basic Level

ELLIS Basics is for the true beginner who has had no or little exposure to English.  Basics teaches the letters of the alphabet, the sounds of the letters and introductory vocabulary. 

Tutorials

Tutorials in ELLIS guide the learner, using video, audio, text and animated examples to demonstrate principles and explain rules.  Then practice sessions help the learner practice new concepts.  This approach makes the instruction in ELLIS clearer and more effective.

Assessment

• Revised tests make sure that every question is accurate and appropriate from an assessment standpoint. 
• The tests have been refined so that the tests provide skills assessment.
• Now, in version 3.0, not only are there Unit tests, but a whole new set of quizzes make the assessment in ELLIS more powerful and more accurate.

Instructor Utilities

The revised Instructor Utilities offers more flexibility from a technical standpoint.  At the same time, Instructor Utilities gives more control to the teacher.  Teachers can decide how the students use ELLIS and apply their choices to individual students or to a whole class.  Instructor Utilities also provides resources and documents to use in the class with the students.

Placement

Every question in the Placement test has been tested to make sure it is proficiency level-appropriate and skill specific.  The new ELLIS Placement test will provide effective measurement in the areas of Listening Comprehension, Vocabulary, and Grammar.  The report provided is now much more descriptive.

Master Pronunciation

In addition to the existing tools in Master Pronunciation, intonation, stress, rhythm, reduction and other elements of pronunciation are taught through interactive lessons.  Master Pronunciation becomes the most thorough and complete tool for improving English pronunciation and speech production.

Technological Improvements

The upgrade to version 3.0 provides a variety of technological fixes and enhancements:

• More options for installing
• Improved compatibility with Windows XP.
• Better options for running on Networks
